A book is published once under a single title (with the possibility of updated editions published infrequently).

Periodicals are newspapers, magazines, or academic journals that are published with a regular frequency, e.g., once a week, once a month, every three months, etc.

Periodicals are also composed of articles on different topics from many authors and with multiple editors, while a book is usually on one specific topic or a series of closely related topics with one or two authors or possibly editors.
