A book is published once under a single title (with the possibility of updates editions published infrequently). Periodicals are magazines or journals that are published with a regular frequency, e.g., once a week, once a month, every three months, etc.
Journals are also composed of articles on different topics from many authors and has multiple editors, while a book is usually on one specific topic or a series of closely related topics with one or two authors or possibly editors.
