Turnitin is a tool for avoiding plagiarism. Instructors use it to verify that students submit original work, and students can use it to make sure they are not inadvertently using someone else's work. The Thompson Library does not use Turnitin, so any questions should be directed to the Office of Online and Digital Education (ODE).

Students: Turnitin is often available through your Canvas assignments. This needs to be activated by your instructor.

Faculty: ODE has instructions on activating Turnitin in your Canvas courses.

Other plagiarism checking services

Grammarly has a free plagiarism checker. Other plagiarism checkers are available on the web, but some are not transparent or ethical about the use of papers people submit for checking, so proceed with caution.
