Endnote Cite While You Write (CWYW) has the capability to connect to a paid desktop version of Endnote or the free Endnote Online version. We use the free Endnote Online version. If you are encountering the error that says "class not registered" after CWYW has been installed on Endnote and you are trying to insert citations, it means that Endnote is trying to retrieve citations from the desktop version instead of the online version. To fix the issue:

  1. Open Microsoft Word

  2. Click the tab that says "Endnote"

  3. Click "preferences"

  4. Click "application"

  5.  Use the dropdown menu that says "application"

  6. Choose "Endnote online"

You may want to restart Word at this point, but it will now connect you to the online version of Endnote. Let us know if the problem persists.
