Q. What is a DOI? How can I use a DOI to find an article?
A digital object identifier (DOI) is a unique string of letters and numerals assigned to an online resource, which functions as part of a permanent URL to that resource. DOIs always start with 10.
Example: 10.2307/3162256
If you have a DOI (digital object identifier) for an article, but not a complete URL, add this string to the beginning of the DOI: http://libproxy.umflint.edu/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/
This will give you a DOI that will work on or off campus:
You can also visit the DOI link resolver at http://dx.doi.org/ and enter the DOI to get a working URL. You will still need to add the proxy string if you're off campus.
